The moment is always a series of connections, and these are sometimes not visible until they find a place in a work of art. In that respect, then, a city can be known through its museums and galleries. The Museum of Contemporary Art has two locations, one in San Diego, and one in La Jolla. These are both based in the same curatorial vision, where the selection is based on art of all media created since 1950. This makes for a very current display, but one that is also broad enough to contain many diverse works by diverse artists.
The coastal town of La Jolla has always had a close connection to the city of San Diego, but still maintains its own distinctive reputation. This is one of the things that’s often so attractive for tourists, or even those who might be looking for their very own La Jolla CA house . Living here and visiting here both allow a chance to see the community up close. The beaches speak to an eternal desire for escape and refuge, and the local art speaks to the rest of the human impulses to see its own reflection, and reflect in an enlightened way.
Art is also a good representation of a society. It’s interesting to look back at art over the centuries and see how it has changed, how our values and focus has shifted, and how differently and similarly we see the world.
